Selina Finance is one of the participating lenders in the government’s Warm Homes Loan Scheme, supporting finance for eligible low-carbon home improvements.
Installers currently access Selina’s scheme offering exclusively through our partner, OpenSolar. We are working to expand our offerings directly to interested brokers and customers in the following weeks.
This guide explains how to get started, which installations are eligible and what customers need to understand about payment timing.
This product is part-funded by the UK Government (Warm Homes Loan Scheme).
Where is Selina’s offering available?
Selina’s current scheme offering is available for properties in England and Wales only.
The property must be the customer’s main home, and they must have an existing mortgage. Second homes, let properties and properties owned outright are not eligible for our current product.
All customer applications are subject to eligibility, credit and affordability checks.
How do I get set up?
If you use OpenSolar but have not enabled Selina Finance, follow the Selina integration setup guide.
If Selina Finance is already enabled, no separate scheme activation is required. However, the scheme option may not appear immediately. If it isn't showing, contact OpenSolar support.
For help with setup or availability:
- Email support@opensolar.com.
- Book a session with OpenSolar’s support team.
There is no installer fee for offering Selina Finance through OpenSolar.
What should I tell customers who ask about applying?
Explain that Selina’s scheme offering is accessed through your OpenSolar proposal.
Where an eligible scheme option is available, the customer can review it and follow the application link. Selina then handles the finance application and lending assessment.
Customers cannot currently start a scheme application directly through Selina’s website or through a broker. We are working on expanding access in the following weeks.
Direct any questions about financial suitability, rates and individual lending eligibility to Selina. Your role is to provide the installation quote and access to the available finance options through OpenSolar. Installers must not make a recommendation or provide any regulated mortgage advice to customers.
What does Selina offer?
Our current product is a five-year fixed-rate loan over a five-year term, secured against the customer’s home alongside their existing mortgage.
The five-year term is specific to Selina’s current offering. It is not a restriction applying to every lender in the government scheme.
A customer product fee of £495 or £995 applies. The applicable fee is confirmed in the customer’s loan offer and is payable when they accept it. This fee is paid by the customer, not the installer.
Which installations are eligible?
Subject to scheme and lending requirements, Selina’s offering supports:
- Solar photovoltaic panels: up to £15,000.
- Battery storage: up to £15,000.
- Air-to-water heat pumps: up to £20,000.
- Ground source heat pumps: up to £35,000.
- Small wind or micro-hydro systems: a shared limit of £20,000.
The maximum total loan is £65,000 across all eligible measures combined. Each measure’s individual limit still applies.
Associated installation costs, including scaffolding and pipework, count within the relevant measure’s limit.
General home improvements, biomass boilers, heat network connections and air-to-air heat pumps are outside Selina’s current offering. Please note that not every technology supported by the wider government scheme is available through our product.
What certification is required?
Your MCS certification must cover each technology you install.
For example, solar certification alone does not make a battery installation eligible. You also need the relevant battery storage certification.
We check certification during the loan approval process and again after installation, when the installation certificate has been lodged.
What should my quote include?
To help avoid delays, provide a quote that:
- Is dated within the last six months.
- Is on your company’s headed paper.
- Names the customer.
- Gives the full installation address.
- Includes your MCS certification number.
- Shows an itemised cost breakdown.
- States the system size in kW.
For projects involving more than one technology, show the cost of each measure separately.
Your MCS number must appear on the quote, even if OpenSolar does not require you to complete that field.
How and when is the loan paid?
Selina pays the customer after installation and completion checks. We do not pay the installer directly.
Customers may need to fund a substantial part of your deposit and stage payments themselves before receiving the loan. Explain your payment schedule at quote stage so they understand how much money they need upfront.
The process is:
- The customer receives approval, accepts the loan documents and pays the product fee.
- Installation takes place under the payment terms agreed between you and the customer.
- You lodge the MCS installation certificate and provide the final invoice.
- The customer sends these documents to Selina.
- Selina checks the documents and sends the mortgage deed for signature.
- Once completion requirements are met, Selina pays the agreed loan amount to the customer.
The customer can then settle your outstanding balance and reimburse themselves for eligible stage payments, within the agreed loan amount.
They must provide Selina with proof of their installation payments within 14 business days of the loan being paid out.
Loan interest and repayments begin when the funds are paid out. Your payment terms remain an arrangement between you and the customer.
What if the installation cost changes?
Tell the customer promptly if the final cost differs from the quote so they can contact Selina before completion.
A lower final cost may require revised loan documents. A higher cost does not automatically increase the loan: the customer may need to cover the difference or request a reassessment.
